William Hill to Implement Age Screening on Twitter

October 8, 2014

Bookmaker and online casino William Hill is to introduce age screening across all of its Twitter accounts, and will be the first company in Europe to do so. We live in a world today where almost everyone has a Twitter, Facebook or Instagram account, and most can access pretty much anything regardless of their age.

Andrea Macqueen, who is the head of regulatory for William Hill, had this to say:

“Age verification, disclosure, and consumer protection is paramount across our entire business, and over the last few years has become even more important within our owned digital IP channels such as our apps and website. Our age verification processes are robust, and now Twitter’s age screening tool will help to ensure we are engaging with age appropriate audiences across social media too.”

What does this mean for us?

The Twitter screening tool will allow William Hill to know who of their Twitter followers are underage. As a result, followers who are underage will be blocked from seeing any tweets made by the well renowned bookmaker. At the moment no date has been set for the official roll out but its been mentioned that it will stretch out to all foreign markets. These include Australia, Italy, Spain and the United States.

William Hill has a very firm policy of not allowing underage people to make bets and has regulated procedures in place at all of their 2,200+ shops worldwide. They recently scored amongst the highest in the latest U.K tests for not allowing underage gamblers to place bets. Test were carried out by the U.K Gambling Commission.
